1987 Trabant 601 Special.
Although this appears perhaps a lot older than it is, this was built at the end of the Cold War era, 2 years before the Berlin Wall came down.
Although the build quality is truly shocking and this is in the most popular shade of hearing aid beige, these cars were the pride and joy of many families, having to wait years and save to get one.
They were however, very reliable. No fuel pump, no oil filter, no radiator, no disc brakes!
The two cylinder two stroke engine runs on a petrol/oil mix. You have to get into 4th gear before you are able to back off on the throttle.
This particular example came from Hungary. It passed the MOT in March 2017 and has just been UK registered.
It has been driven over 400 miles and since having a new exhaust, new brakes, new clutch and the carb rebuilt it should be ready to enjoy.
Totally standard aside from a towbar (useful for towing very little)
The speedo shows under 4000km but this is not warranted as it never came with history.
It does have an owners handbook, printed on very cheap paper and invoices for recent parts fitted.
